How Do You Have Spiritual Growth? A Look at How God Multiplies Growth in Believers

Spiritual growth doesn’t happen by accident—it happens when we stay rooted in Jesus and allow God to shape, prune, and strengthen us. If you’ve been wondering how to grow spiritually, how to walk in faith despite fear, or how God strengthens us through obedience, this reflection will encourage and guide you.

An Example of How God Multiplies Growth in Us
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" John 15:5 NIV
The strawberry plant is a beautiful illustration of what God does in our lives when we remain in Him. As the plant matures and begins to produce fruit, it sends out a new vine called a strawberry runner. This runner must be rooted in the soil to grow into an entirely new plant—multiplying fruitfulness again and again.
Our walk with Jesus looks much the same. When we remain connected to Him, we naturally begin to bear fruit. But that fruit also comes with new areas in our lives that need care, cultivation, and tending—so that even more fruit can grow.
Just like the strawberry runner, we must stay planted and rooted in Jesus to experience spiritual multiplication and lasting growth.
Looking back at the past year, I can see how God has placed me in situations that were honestly intimidating. These were moments that stretched me, challenged me, and required more trust than comfort. Yet, in every fearful moment, God wasn’t asking me to be confident in myself—He was asking me to walk in faith.
Often, the places where we feel the most uncomfortable are the very places where God is planting a new “runner” in our lives—an opportunity to grow new fruit, new faith, and new confidence in Him.
Saying Yes to God Even When You're Afraid
Is there something God is asking you to step into right now?
A conversation…A calling…A ministry…A transition…A new level of obedience…
Courage doesn’t mean the fear disappears; it means you choose to obey God anyway. The more we step out in faith, despite fear, the less power that fear has over us. Even if anxiousness still lingers, its grip weakens as our faith strengthens.
It’s not confidence in ourselves that grows. It’s confidence in God.
And the more we say “yes” in small steps, the more natural it becomes to say “yes” again.
These words I write are for me just as much as I pray they are for you. Growth in our relationship with God comes when we choose to remain in Him—not striving, performing, or comparing, but it is found in remaining.
Every area that God calls you too will stretch your faith, but it will also multiple your faith. And just as the strawberry plant grows, multiplies, and expands through its runners, God is doing something similar in your life. He is cultivating new fruit, planting you in new places, and strengthening your faith one step at a time.
Stay rooted. Stay connected. Stay surrendered.
Your faithfulness will bear fruit—much more than you can see right now.
